Most source plasma is donated at dedicated plasma collection centers, where a process called plasmapheresis is used to remove just the protein-rich plasma from healthy, committed donors.

In the United States, there are more than 330 International Quality Plasma Program (IQPP)-certified plasma collection centers that supply manufacturers with the plasma they use to manufactured final therapies to treat individuals with rare, chronic, often genetic diseases and disorders. More than 25 such centers are located in Europe.
